I have been catching up on local news after a brief absence and I just saw your story in the Oct. 24 newspaper about all the trash being dumped behind the Salvation Army.
In my opinion, this situation (as well as other incidents of roadside dumping) is influenced by the complete absence of a large items collection in the district’s waste collection schedule.
I cannot understand why this community, unlike many in Ontario, does not provide for one or two collections of large items annually. Even the small township I lived in six years ago, southeast of Ottawa, provided such a service.
It makes far more sense to provide such a service than to have untold numbers of vehicles driving to and from the disposal site, wasting precious resources and polluting the air.
In addition, the incentive for some irresponsible and inconsiderate residents to dump their large trash items in the middle of the night would be largely eliminated.
