Not deterred by cat bylaw

April 16, 2008 14:04

To the editor: This is to Mr. Watt, Pat Aijo, Shirley Davy, Paul Davy, Paul McKay, Joe Miles and all the others who oppose the cat bylaw in Parry Sound. Cats do eliminate rats and mice, that’s agreed. They also bring home diseases after mauling those rodents. Rat and mouse traps eliminate rodents as well. Mr. McKay, please give us a list of deterrents available for keeping cats off our property. We have tried endless products, but they don’t work. See ‘Cat’ Shirley Davy, we don’t deplore cats, we just want them managed by the owner so they don’t damage our property and gardens. Mr. Davy, for those of us who ask for owners to be more responsible for their pets, be assured that we have tried to deal privately with them with no success. One neighbour of ours, like Shirley Davy, who entices straying cats only adds to the problem. Many of us do like cats, contrary to your beliefs. Mr. Barrie, you are correct. Cats do bury their droppings in the neighbour’s gardens and flower beds, and urinate on our deck, buildings, garden plants, etc. I suggest don’t smell the roses. Cats also climb on our cars and scratch the finish. Barb Cardy, buy a break-away collar or keep your cat inside. Out-of-towners who oppose the bylaw should check their own neighbourhoods. I’m sure problems exist there as well. Residents of Victoria, Georgina, Virginia Heights, Tower Hill, Cascade, Addie and others who favour the bylaw, let’s here from you too. To Paul McKay, if owners monitor there cats and consider other people’s property, the problem might just go away. My cat is 18-years-old and just as cuddly as yours and is as frisky as ever, but still won’t go outside, as you know, but sends her best to Charlotte and Razzi. Seguin Jake, you’re just as handsome as ever. Perry and Frances Hall Parry Sound
