Banting's birthplace should be saved from future development

May 18, 2007 15:05

I have just received word of the astounding news that the historic site which is already landmarked in Alliston is being jeopardized by the greed of the Ontario Historical Society and Solmar, a land developer.

I have visited this town and was surprised that the property was plaqued and land marked but not preserved as it should have been.

The OHS has lost credibility in my eyes knowing this story.

However, redemption is still possible with the help of others that see the significance of remembering the accomplishments of this renowned researcher by recognizing and conserving his birthplace.

There are hotels, which serve visitors from all around, not to far from this from this property and their patrons would benefit from visiting such a site.

The camp for diabetic children is also an awesome idea to serve these children who are otherwise singled out as "different" at regular youth camps.

Recently, there was a poll conducted by the CBC searching for the most famous Canadian...Sir Frederick Banting was among the top 10 on the list!

Surely, his accomplishment should have a place on our Canadian historical map.
