Shame and disgust over homestead

Letters

February 16, 2007 17:02

I was in shame for my country and in utter disgust to those responsible when I viewed the current pictures of this homestead and read of the political and bureaucratic corruption that has caused this property to deteriorate to such condition.

I then understand that there is the possibility of it being destroyed altogether. This would be a complete travesty and embarrassment to this country, to the Banting family who donated the land and to Sir Frederick Banting himself, whose education and devotion led to the discovery of insulin which has saved so much pain and death of people all over the world.

I am in support of all causes that would lead to the restoration and protection of this property for the historical importance that it holds.

Please do not allow the importance of this property and it's building to be forgotten and lost. Development of the property to help support the self esteem of diabetic children would be a wonderful idea and the perfect gift of recognition to Sir Frederick Banting and his descendants.

Randy Schurko, Father of an eight-year-old diabetic, Lorette, Manitoba
