Homestead sale not likely the choice of the Banting family

December 14, 2006 12:12

Dear Editor: I was disappointed this morning when I heard the news that the Ontario Historical Society has decided not to sell the Banting Homestead to the town of New Tecumseth. Instead, they are selling to a higher bidder.

Our family moved to this area 18 years ago. In that time, we have seen many historic buildings destroyed.

I may not know all the facts in the Ontario Historical Society's decision to sell the Banting Homestead; however, I do feel that it would not be the wish of the Banting family member who bequeathed this property to the society.

I would suspect that it was felt by the family that the OHS would care for the property.
