Atom Flames draw even in series with Meaford

February 08, 2010 17:02

PENETANGUISHENE – The Penetanguishene Midas Auto Service atom Flames finished 10 points behind Meaford No. 2 in the standings during the regular season, but they’re dead even in the playoffs.
Thanks largely to a superb goaltending effort by Jacob Bernard, the Flames won 3-2 on Sunday to tie their best-of-three Georgian Bay Triangle Local League series at one game apiece.
Marcel Dorion (2) and Dylan Larounde scored for Penetanguishene, with assists going to Victoria Ansell, Austin Dusome and Nicolas Robitaille.
Despite being handicapped by a short bench with only three extra players, the Flames led 3-1 early in the third, only to see the River Cats mount a furious charge. Although they got within one, Bernard stood his ground in the crease, turning aside at least a dozen good scoring chances.
In Game 1 on Saturday, the visitors from Meaford prevailed 5-2. Hunter Bugg and Dorion each had a goal and an assist for the Flames.
Game 3 in the first-round series goes tonight (Tuesday) in Thornbury.
