Top spellers rise to the top

MIDLAND – The Midland Area Reading Council’s second annual spelling bee on Saturday attracted 57 registrants, an increase of 316 per cent from last year. Fifteen area schools were represented. Penetanguishene Mayor Anita Dubeau, left, and Midland Mayor Jim Downer congratulate Grade 5-6 competitors Lucas King (third place) of St. Ann’s School, Gavin Riley (second) of Bayview Public School and Laura Duquette (first) of Canadian Martyrs School. Other results are as follows:
Grades 3-4
1. Anna Reive, Huronia Centennial Elementary School
2. Noah Weatherell, Victoria Harbour Elementary School
3. Tayla Keith, Burkevale Protestant Separate School
Grades 7-8
1. Alannah Cady, Canadian Martyrs
