Thousands celebrate winter

BY STAFF   February 08, 2010 15:02

BARRIE - An estimated 20,000 people took part in Winterfest and Festival of Ice celebrations in downtown Barrie this weekend.

“It was an amazing weekend,” said Arin Donnelly, community events programmer with the City of Barrie. “It was perfect winter weather. It was a little chilly, but it was sunny.”

With helicopter and dog-sled rides, the annual polar bear swim, lumberjack demonstrations, snow slides and an ice maze, the festival featured something for kids, and kids of all ages.

“It was a really busy weekend, packed with things to do. It was a great Winterfest.”
