Parents have alternative to all-day kindergarten

February 08, 2010 14:02

In response to Roslyn Watkins’ letter stating that full-time kindergarten penalizes stay-at-home moms, I would like to say emphatically, "There is a very rewarding alternative – homeschooling."
The opportunity to raise and teach her children at home is not being taken away from her. No one can force her to enrol her children in school. Homeschooling is a legal and very viable option.

Excellent curricula is available and Barrie has a superb support system of many homeschooling families that offers great opportunities for social interaction.

My own four children thrived in a homeschooling environment and have adapted very well when integrated later into the public school system. Nothing compares to the joy of being a vital part of your own children's learning process.  Watching them develop and adopt the values important for life is well worth the effort and sacrifice.
