TNT vs. Markham

Game 3

The team was home versus the Markham Waxers for Playoff Game 3 on Tues., Jan. 26.

The Waxers opened the scoring to go up 1-0 then scored again to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Austin Russell put his team on the scoreboard in the second period assisted by Emma Foerster. Then TNT continued to find their legs as Kyle Heydon banged one home assisted by Brody Real and Russell to tie it 2-2

Peter Carney's line also rose to the occasion as Remi Drouin fired a hard shot at the net and Matthew Brett was there to jump on the rebound.

The Waxers then let their emotions take over with bad penalties which proved to cost them the game by giving TNT a five-on-three advantage as Darcy Tainsh recorded his first goal of the season on a blast from the point after Drouin fed him an accurate pass.

In the third period TNT overwhelmed Markham as Carney dug for the puck in the corner and passed it to Drouin who beat the goalie five-hole.

Tainsh then scored his second of the night on another bullet shot from the point assisted by Drouin and Carney. Drouin also scored his second goal for TNT on a big wrist shot assisted by Carney and Brett for seven unanswered goals to make it 7-2.

The Waxers kept coming at the Tornados, however. Quinn Big Canoe completely shut the door after Connor Wiley had played awesome in the first half against a very determined Markham squad.

Brady Poirier and Bryan Rayburn were up to the task with solid defensive play and Devin Matson and Riley Jones kept the Waxers out of their zone to eliminate Markham in a 7-2 win.

OMHA Playoffs

Round Two

Game 1

On Sat., Jan. 30, TNT travelled to Elvis Stojko Arena to open up round two of the playoffs against the Richmond Hill Kings.

The Tornados had plenty of chances early but the Kings' goalie stood tall and Quinn Big Canoe was stellar allowing only one goal.

The Kings scored first to take a 1-0 lead on a turnover by TNT. Darcy Tainsh broke up a play by the Kings on a two on one to keep his team in it.

That seemed to inspire the Tornados as Austin Russell went end to end and scored the tying goal assisted by Brody Real and Devin Matson in the second period.

TNT kept the pressure on as Remi Drouin picked up an assist when he fired a shot on net after receiving a nice pass from Brady Poirier and Peter Carney was there to collect the rebound goal for a 2-1 lead.

With under two minutes to play in the hard-fought second period, the Kings were now applying pressure and found a way to beat the TNT goalie with a redirection on net.

The third period would surely decide the game as both teams realized it's now playoff hockey and Connor Wiley was playing his best to keep his team in.

A goal-mouth scramble occurred at the whistle as the Kings forced it in to take a 3-2 lead. TNT had a powerplay in the dying minutes after Emma Foerster, who was playing outstanding defence, was checked in the boards and the goalie was pulled for an extra skater but the Tornados came up short in a 3-2 loss.
