Essa Summer Blast day camps offer great trips for kids

AROUND ANGUS

BY Helena Hayward   July 02, 2009 18:07

If you would like to avoid hearing "I am bored, there is nothing to do" this summer, try the Essa Summer Blast Day Camps. Held at both the Angus Recreation Centre and the Thornton Arena, there will be daily activities and weekly trips to places such as the Metro Toronto Zoo, Rounds Ranch, Santa's Village, Ontario Science Centre, canoeing at Wye Marsh and more.

The cost is very reasonable at $130/week per child, or $230/week for two siblings, or $280/week for three siblings. Registration forms are available at the township office, at both of the Essa libraries or online at www.essatownship.on.ca (click on "Recreation" at the bottom of the home page and it will take you to the links for summer camp).

The communities of Angus and New Lowell have been invited to join the bus trip to Casino Rama on July 7 with the Creemore Big Heart Seniors while the Angus Senior Citizen's Friendship Club's trip to Casino Rama is on hiatus until the fall. To reserve a seat for this trip please call Sylvia at 705-466-5732. The cost is $5 and includes the bus ride and a buffet lunch. The bus departs from B&M Variety in Angus at 9 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m. You don't have to be a senior to take part but you must be at least 19 years old.

The Angus Horticultural Society is holding its monthly meeting on Tues., July 21 at 7 p.m. at Angus United Church on Jonas Street. Everyone is welcome.

Discovery Canyon Vacation Bible Camp is being held from July 20 to 24 at St. Luke's Church in Creemore. All children ages four to nine years of age are welcome. To register please call 705-466-2206

Angus Food Bank volunteers would like to give a special thank you to Dylan McDermott who generously donated his time and talents to raise donations to help the food bank. As part of a school project for community service, he decided to help others in his community. He was successful in collecting food and money to help those in need. With this difficult economy more people are needing to use this service and the food bank needs to rely on the efforts of people like Dylan to assist in helping those in need. Thank you Dylan, your assistance in greatly appreciated.

The family of Ray and June Latimer extend their best wishes and congratulations as they celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary on July 1, 2009. With love from Gail, Ed and family, and Arlene.

E-mail or call me with your news, event or birthday/anniversary wishes before Monday at noon for the upcoming weekend's paper, aroundangus@gmail.com, 705-424-6488.
