Singer/songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie performs at the Gibson Centre for Community, Arts, and Culture in Alliston. With a career spanning almost 50 years, Sainte-Marie gave an engaging, energetic performance that ended only after the crowd begged for an encore. She returned to the stage for a final song. The concert was part of the Gibson Centre's Headliner Concerts series. The next concert in the series is the Lincolns Sept. 11.

The Barrie Concert Association brings classical music to the community. The Barrie Concert Series (Saturdays at 8 p.m.), Georgian Music Series (Sundays at 2:30 p.m.) and Midday Music with Shigeru (first Wednesday of each month) are held at the Hi-Way Pentecostal Church in Barrie. Colours of Music will be held at venues throughout Barrie Sept. 25 to Oct. 4. Subscriptions for Barrie Concert and Georgian Music series for 2009/10 can be purchased locally at the Modern Conservatory of Music, 35 Victoria St. E., Alliston.

•"Summer in the Silo", Orangeville Artists Group Art Show and Sale. Original art works by members of the Orangeville Art Group. •Artists in the Attic: Open Studio at The Gibson. Join artist in residence, Susan Menzies, in Alice's Attic every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $5. Please call to reserve.
•Summer Drop-in Programs will start the week of July 6. The programs will be running Tuesdays through Thursdays and all children are welcome to attend. Upcoming programs include: July 6 - Kids Paint, July 7 - Friendship Bracelets and July 8 - Crazy Critters. (Cat is a crazy critter.)
•Family Sundays: Creative fun for all ages, a creative and interactive way to spend time with the family. Art projects and/or entertainment will take place on the second and fourth Sunday of the month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with programming that reflects current events and exhibitions at the centre.
•The Gibson Centre will celebrate Alliston's annual Potato Festival with a portrait exhibition titled "The Eyes Have It," from July 31 to Aug. 26. The centre is inviting artists to submit up to three pieces for consideration. Entry deadline is 5 p.m. July 17. Artists are encouraged to incorporate themes related to potatoes or local potato farmers.

Hemingway on Stage, Part V, The Death Factory
Residents of both Briar Hill and Green Briar are invited to spend an evening with award-winning actor Brian Gordon Sinclair as he performs in the next installment of Hemingway On Stage entitled The Death Factory.  This two-act play about the Second World War continues the series that began in 2003. •Showcase of South Simcoe: Runs until July 5. Community exhibition featuring the winners of "Art on Main," a South Simcoe Arts Council juried art show which displays the work of local artists in downtown storefronts throughout Alliston, Beeton, Cookstown and Tottenham.
•Summer Arts Camps: Seven different week-long programs, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guest artists have been scheduled for each day of the camp. Camps include music, painting, pottery, dance, drama, drumming and outdoor activities.
•Rock Paper Scissors: The Artistic Journey of Susan Menzies, July 8 to 27. Opening Reception:  Sat., July 11, 2 to 5 p.m. This exhibition will showcase 35 years of artwork by well known Canadian artist Susan Menzies. Included in the retrospective will be acrylic, watercolour and digital paintings, 'Naturescapes,' depicting different regions of Canada from the Canadian shield to the Rocky Mountains. Also included will be gouache and digital backgrounds and concept work from feature films and television animated series for which she has won an Emmy and three Gemini awards. Menzies has also won two national art competitions and been presented to HRH Prince Philip. Currently she is Artist in Residence at the Gibson Centre in Alliston, where visitors can view her work and interact with her as she creates.
