Warden asks for education funding review

June 30, 2009 12:06

Simcoe County District School Board trustees have accepted an offer by Simcoe County Warden Tony Guergis to meet with the Ministry of Education and request a review of education funding for the board.

This is a positive step," concluded the Warden. "Simcoe County is consistently at the bottom of the funding scale and we need to be addressing our concerns as regional service providers. When we act together we have a stronger voice."

In a letter presented to the board recently, Guergis offered his support and suggested that a working group be established to ask the province to clarify funding levels provided to the region.

"We look forward to working with the Ministry of Education and the Simcoe County District School Board in order to raise awareness and hopefully secure increased funding levels for Simcoe County," said Guergis. "We should be working together with our partners in order to bring recognition to funding issues from a regional perspective."
