Resident launches dog beach petition

BY Trina Berlo, staff   June 30, 2009 11:06

A Wasaga Beach resident is launching a petition asking Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to offer a suitable long-term relocation of the dog beach.

The dog beach, located at Beach Area One, has been relocated for several weeks during the last few summers to make room for nesting Piping Plovers.

"There has been much anger and grief surrounding the closure of our beloved dog beach," said Kim Harding. "The endangered Piping Plover will be returning for many years to come so this is not a temporary problem. Suggesting that we take our pets to the riverside where there is heavy water traffic is not a viable solution."

She asks people sign her petition at www.gopetition.com/petitions/relocate-dog-beach.html

"We know it's too late to get any changes made this year, but perhaps we can reach a satisfactory solution for 2010," said Harding.
