Crash caused by medical condition

May 14, 2009 16:05

A man suffering from an undetected medical condition drove his car into a ditch after driving erratically on Mapleview Drive west of Yonge Street just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. A South Simcoe Police officer arriving at the scene talked to both the driver and witnesses and suspected the man, a 24-year-old from Tottenham, was impaired from drugs. He was arrested and taken back to the South Division headquarters. Police called Simcoe County Paramedics to come and check on the man. After examination, it was discovered the man was suffering from a previously unknown ailment. He was taken to hospital for treatment. No charges were laid. The car suffered front-end damage.
