Folks are aiding in the search for Brandon Crisp, and passing along posters with his photo

Spreading the word

From Simcoe County forestry staff to paramedics to staff e-mails at Royal Victoria Hospital and Georgian College, the community is doing what it can, where it can, to bring a Barrie teen home safely.

Brandon Crisp, 15, has not been seen or heard from since he left home on his yellow bike Thanksgiving Monday.

“We’ve e-mailed all our (1,600) staff and, in addition to emails, we’ve alerted paramedic staff, roads and engineering staff and our forestry staff. Any staff who are on the road have been notified and asked to keep an eye open for the boy,” said Allan Greenwood, the county’s communications director.

The e-mails included a missing poster, which features a picture of Brandon, the same poster that volunteers – including St. Joseph’s Catholic High School students – have been putting up throughout Barrie and Orillia.

In those two communities, Georgian College student government leaders have joined in putting up the posters, said Georgian’s vice-president of external affairs Bob Kennedy.

“It’s been a community effort to get his picture up. We’ve been working with our student leaders to get his picture posted throughout the hallways in Barrie and Orillia, and we have sent out an e-mail blast to staff and students.

“Many of our students are away for reading week this week, and hopefully when they’re back next week, (Brandon’s) photo will be front and centre. We have also put notices on our own social networking sites and are in the process of putting up a link (from our main page),” he said, adding the link will feature the poster and information about contacting police.

Kennedy added he hoped the college could make a critical difference in the investigation, because of the number of young people – some as young as 17 – who attend and who use the internet and its social networking sites so extensively.

“That’s where we hope we could get some breakthrough,” he said. “Everybody’s doing their part.”

Kennedy, who also is a board member of the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce, said the business group has also sent out an e-mail blast.

The Royal Victoria Hospital has also joined in the e-mail effort, said corporate communications representative Donna Danyluk. Normally, the hospital does not send out posters to staff – and forbids use of its electronic and physical resources to advertise private causes.

“In these tough situations, this is a time when rules are bent,” she said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
