Schools throughout the province are getting set to celebrate Ontario Education Week.
The week, which runs between April 28 and May 2, recognizes student achievement and education excellence.
Locally the Simcoe County District School Board will host two events to celebrate their staff and students.
The Excellence in Education night, held Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m., will honour more than 70 secondary school and adult learning students for outstanding achievement and contributions to community.
Special teaching and community support awards will also be handed out.
Then on Thursday, May 1, starting at 6 p.m. the board will hold its Character Recognition Evening.
This event recognizes staff, students and volunteers who have been recommended by their peers for demonstrating the board’s commit to character traits.
Both these events will take place at the SCDSB Education Centre in Midhurst.
Many individual schools, including Hillcrest Public School in Barrie, will be holding events as well.
Hillcrest will host its annual Art Appreciation Night, which showcases student work, on Tuesday, April 29, between 6 and 7:30 p.m.
