Shop for Mother's Day at 54 Plus Centre craft sale
Changes in our lives are inevitable and we all have experienced many in our lifetime. Some are for the good and some not so good but I think it is safe to say that the 54 Plus Seniors Centre’s move to the Gibson Centre last September was for the good.
It is now the middle of April and the seniors are in full swing since the return of the sunny warmer days of spring.
Although there were some creaks and cracks of bones, the 24 who showed up for the first tai chi class seemed to enjoy themselves. There is always room for more so come on down to the centre on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and do some moves with them.
We welcome the 15 new members who have joined the centre so far this month. It is great to see the membership growing. Don’t forget our next general meeting on Mon., April 21 at 1 p.m. We hope to see some new faces to share some birthday cake with the members celebrating a birthday this month.
Guest speaker Laura Lynn Bourassa will speak about memory loss, signs of Alzheimer’s and how to reduce the risk. This disease is one that creates many changes in a life and one that we hope we will never have to experience.
The winners of the bid euchre on Thurs., April 10 were Marion Boyda and Marg Hunter (again).
On Mon., April 14 winners were Ralph Layman and Evelyn Dunbar.
The winners of the regular euchre on Sat., April 12 were the mother and son team of Ena and Maurice Hetherington.
Bridge results from Fri., April 11 were winners Ian Kay, Lee Harper and Rhea Alderson.
Mother’s Day is coming up on Sun., May 11 so why not shop for a gift for your mom or daughter at the 54 Plus Centre’s Spring Craft and Bake Sale on Sat., April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A great selection of gifts will be available from over 30 vendors. Admission is free.
Don’t forget your baked goods donations to be brought to the hall on Fri., April 25.
Tickets are now available for the centre’s ham dinner on May 10 at 6 p.m. They are $12 and include regular and bid euchre after dinner so please plan to stay and play.
I have been doing a little research on the senior’s centre in Alliston and have learned that since it received its charter as the Golden Age Club back on July 12, 1968 it looks like we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary this year.
There have been some changes over the years but all in all, the purpose is the same and that is to provide recreation and fellowship for members. Seems to me this calls for a party.
Don’t forget to sign up for the 1,000 Islands trip in October.
The information about the trip is in the hall along with the sign-up sheet. Sounds like a fun trip. Wish I could go.
One last note, our hall is available for rentals so if you have an anniversary, birthday or some other event and you need some space to celebrate, call Marilyn at 705-434-9612 for more information.
