MPP uses property taxes as scare tactic

In the April 11 Queen’s Park Report by MPP Jim Wilson he states, “Property taxes will skyrocket thanks to McGuinty.” Well, this is far from the truth.

What we pay in property taxes is determined by our local town councils during the budget process. All property taxes collected go back to your local town or city and not to the province.

Money collected from property taxes help pay for local services like policing, sewer repairs, snow cleaning, and so on.

Based on what Mr. Wilson would have you believe all of our property taxes will go up by 14 per cent once the freeze is lifted.

Again this is far from the truth as well. Property taxes go up each and every year, and have done so for as long as I can remember. If your local town was to raise your property taxes by 14 per cent there would be such an outcry from the residents that I’m sure the members of council, who also live in your community, would never pass such an increase.

So please Mr. Wilson stop playing partisan politics and scaring the residents of our riding. Show some leadership on this and other issues in our riding.

Former Liberal candidate,
