•CONTACT’s Community Kitchen Spring 2008 Good Food Series starts Wed., April 16 with Stocks and Sauces. The series continues April 23 with Taste of India, April 30 is Let’s Do Brunch, May 7 is Moroccan Magic, and May 14 is Girls’ and Guys’ Night Out. All classes run Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the cost is $35. Class size is limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Registration and pre-payment is required. •Alliston Junior Farmers is hosting its Spring Dance Sat., April 19 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Cookstown Curling Club. Tickets are available at the door and are $10. This is a licensed event and guests must be 16 years of age or older (proper I.D. required). DJ services provided by ‘Music of Our Times’. Bring your friends and western wear. •Adjala-Tosorontio Residents’ Association will hold its annual general meeting Mon., April 21 at the Municipal Building at 7855 Sideroad 30, Adjala. The business meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then at 7:30 p.m. a special information session titled “Streetproofing Kids” will follow. Everyone is welcome. Each child receives a gift. •The Newtones are offering their traditional spring variety show April 25, 26 and 27. The fun and entertainment is lined up for the Tec We Gwill Hall, at Highway 27 and the 10th Line. April 25 and 26 the show starts at 8 p.m. and April 27 show time is 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children’s tickets are $3 and it’s free for children under three years. •St. John’s United Church in Alliston is pleased to present ‘Souvenir Splendour: An Afternoon of Song’ at 3 p.m. on Sun., April 27. Amy Dodington will sing an eclectic program of songs. Tickets are $15 (free for kids younger than 12). There is a post-concert reception. Tickets are available by calling the church office at 705-435-6732 or visiting M&M Meat Shops in Alliston. Net proceeds will help support the Ministry and Mission of St. John’s.
•Living Faith Community Presbyterian Church in Baxter is inviting residents to “Wit and Wisdom For Seniors” the first Thursday of each month. All ages are welcome. The church is on Murphy Road in Baxter. May 1 will be Anne Brolley of Hummingbird Enterprises and she will discuss gardening for seniors and will show tools that make work in the garden easier.
June 5 will feature someone from the Heart and Stroke Foundation speaking on the risk factors for heart and stroke. All are welcome.
•The New Tecumseth Singers are performing at their traditional songs and supper fundraising event, to be held on Sat., May 3 at the Woodington Lake Golf Club. Tickets for the event, which includes dinner, concert and silent auction, are available for $45 by calling 905-729-0363.

•Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Simcoe is searching for in school mentors in Adjala-Tosorontio and Alliston. If you have an extra hour per week and would like to donate your time, there are 22 children waiting for a special friend to visit them during the school day.

•Soroptimist International is a non-profit organization that betters the lives of women and girls locally and abroad. They meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 46 Wellington St. W. in Alliston. The meetings run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. They are expanding and encourage anyone who is interested to attend their meetings.
