Since taking office, our Conservative Government has kept its promise to Canadian by keeping taxes low; giving Canadians the tax relief they truly deserve. Since being elected, our Conservative Government has put more money in the pockets of hard working families by reducing the tax burden they are forced to pay. These are tax cuts that are allowing everyday Canadians make more choices in their lives while ensuring the Canadian economy remains strong.
Thanks to strong Conservative leadership under Prime Minister Harper, Tax Freedom Day now comes early on an annual basis. Canadian families now have a real disposable income that is continually on the rise.
On July 1, 2006, our Conservative government kept one of its key election promises by cutting the GST from seven to six percent. Our government finished the promised GST cut on January 1, 2008 by reducing the GST by another percentage, putting it at five percent.
Our government believes in providing tax relief for Canadians and we have delivered by bringing the total tax burden of Canadians to the lowest level we have seen in nearly fifty years.
As well as providing Canadians with much needed tax reductions, our Conservative Government is also making sure that they are targeted to maintain Canada's strong economy. In December 2007, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a report stating that Canada's economic growth had outpaced those of many of the major industrialized countries of the world. The IMF report points out that our government bases its policies on the solid economic fundamentals and a "sound policy framework" that positions Canada to weather future economic challenges should they arrive.
This Conservative Government's strong leadership and clear priorities stand in stark contrast to the weak leadership and inability to prioritize of the Stephane Dion Liberals.
When Stephane Dion first ran for office, the Liberal leader ran for a Liberal Party that promised to abolish the Goods and Service Tax. After thirteen years, this promise had yet to be fulfilled. Today, the Liberal Leader is now musing about hiking the GST to pay for their irresponsible spending promises.
Once again, Canadians have a clear choice: Strong leadership, lower taxes and a strong economy with the Conservatives or weak leadership and higher taxes with the Liberals. Stephane Dion, Not a leader. Not worth the risk.
