Thieves use wheelbarrow to haul off safe

Daytime Break-in in Beeton

BEETON - Residents of a Patterson Street house in Beeton arrived home Wednesday to discovered they had been robbed of thousands of dollars worth of their possessions.

Police were called to the home at about 3:50 p.m. after the burglary had been discovered. Police believe that sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. suspects broke into the house and made off with, amongst other things, an X-box Elite Game System, 10 X-box Games, a Nixon silver boys watch with a diamond in the centre, and a variety of gold jewellery.

The largest item stolen was a 200-lb floor safe that contained a diamond solitaire engagement ring.

The OPP Canine Unit attended the scene and conducted a search that revealed the suspects initially dragged the heavy safe from the home and then loaded it into a wheelbarrow and hauled it off towards Centre Street North in Beeton.

It is unknown if the safe was placed in a vehicle from there or if the suspects continued on with the wheelbarrow, but neither were located anywhere in the area.

The missing wheelbarrow has a new green bucket on it. An OPP Scenes of Crime Officer also attended the home to take fingerprints and obtain further evidence from the scene.

The suspects have not yet been identified but were described as two males in their teens possibly wearing blue coats. No further description was available from witnesses.

Nottawasaga OPP Street Crime Unit is continuing the investigation.
