Alliston steps up, donates 10 relief boxes to Haiti

ALLISTON - Alliston and area is well represented in the aid Rotary Clubs are sending to Haiti, as people work to rebuild country devastated by an earthquake earlier this month.

To date, the Rotary Club of Alliston has sent 10 ShelterBoxes to Haiti. The boxes are $1,000 each and contain a tent along with other supplies and equipment to keep a group of 10 people going for up to six months.

When the earthquake first struck, the Rotary Club of Alliston paid for four ShelterBoxes to be sent to Haiti, the remaining six have been paid for with donations from the local community.

"The community has really rallied," said secretary Frank Berndt. "It's fantastic."

Across Canada, over 500 ShelterBoxes have been donated to Haiti.

ShelterBox response team members are on the ground in Haiti and helping to distribute the boxes where they are needed most.

People can be made to any Alliston Rotarian or at a number of participating businesses. The club asks that people donate money only, not supplies.
