Firefighters who battled New Year's blaze applauded

BY Matthew Talbot, Staff   January 26, 2010 12:01

ADJALA-TOSORONTIO - Firefighters who responded to a barn fire on New Year's Eve received high praise from Adjala-Tosorontio councillors at a recent meeting.

That same night, firefighters were also called to a chimney fire at the same time.

Coun. Ray Wallace commended the joint response of firefighters from Adjala-Tosorontio, New Tecumseth and Rosemont.

More than 40 firefighters fought the blaze while 10 firefighters managed the hydrant in Beeton, filling the trucks to bring water to the scene. More than 72,000 gallons of water were used fighting the fire, which ultimately claimed the barn and the animals inside.

Deputy-Mayor Doug Little said, "It was New Year's Eve and to get that kind of turnout on a night like that, they should be recognized."
