Helping Hand store holding $10 bag sale

Around Angus

January 15, 2010 17:01

The Angus Senior Citizen's Friendship Club meetings are back after a holiday hiatus. As always the meetings are held each Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Legion on Fraser Street. The first meeting this year is being held today (Jan. 14).

FOCUS Community Development Corporation is holding a free employer workshop with Terry Maynard on Jan. 21 in Alliston. The workshop will address questions regarding employee development in order for your organization to meet its goals. This workshop will consider employee motivation factors, key responsibility areas, and competency models needed to create an effective employee development plan. The workshop begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will follow.

It's that time of the year again. Warm up those vocal pipes for maximum efficiency. Every year the Royal Canadian Legions across Canada sponsor a public speaking contest for students to provide them with the opportunity to express their thoughts. Each school will choose contestants who will present their own speeches at the Legion. The Angus Legion will judge the entries on Jan. 31. The categories are (A) Junior Grades 4 to 6 and (B) Intermediate Grades 7 to 9. Congratulations to all the students who have participated at the branch level. First place winning submissions will go on to be judged at the next levels (Zone, District, etc). If you would like more information on this event, please contact Heather Jordan, Youth and Education chair at 705-424-0679.

The Angus Senior Citizens Friendship Club hosts a trip to Casino Rama on the first Monday of each month. The next trip will be Feb. 1. A cost of $5 covers bus transportation and a noon meal buffet. To reserve a seat on the bus and for further information please call Floy Catt at 705-728-2113.

A blood donor clinic is being held at the Angus Arena on Feb. 4 from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please call 1-888-2-DONATE to book your appointment.

If your child will be starting kindergarten this September give Care-A-Lot Cooperative Nursery School a call at 705-424-9592 to find out about their JK readiness program that runs two mornings per week.

The Helping Hand store is having a sale. Take advantage of their $10 bag sale on all winter items for the month of January.

Happy Birthday wishes for Michael Artuso who celebrates his fourth birthday on Jan. 17.

E-mail or call me with your news, event or birthday/anniversary wishes before Monday at noon for the upcoming weekend's paper, aroundangus@gmail.com, 705-424-6488.
