Man taken to hospital after 7th Line crash

BEETON - One middle-aged man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries today (Tuesday) after a collision at the intersection of the 7th Line and the 10th Sideroad, south of Beeton.

Paramedics were on standby just before 2 p.m. while firefighters worked to extricate the man from his green Nissan Sentra.

Using the Jaws of Life, firefighters cut off the front and rear driver's side doors to extract the man. Nottawasaga OPP Constable Leslie Hood couldn't identify the driver, but said was local.

After the man was loaded onto an ambulance, paramedics attended to him briefly on scene.

Hood said his injuries were non-life-threatening.

The second car involved in the collision, a white GM sedan belonging to the Town of New Tecumseth, was removed from the scene.

A man who lived nearby said the intersection is a nasty one. He can recall four significant collisions there over the years. The intersection gets worse in the winter, he said, when banks of snow obscure line of sight.

The intersection at the other end of the 7th Line at the 15th Sideroad just east of the location has also seen its fair share of crashes over the years. Former New Tecumseth Counc. Helga Elie lobbied to have an embankment at that intersection graded back to allow for a better line of vision for drivers.

The other intersection to the west of today's crash where the 7th Line intersects the Tottenham Road has also seen a fair number of serious collisions over the years.
