TNT vs. Newmarket
Connor deVries started off the scoring with eight seconds off the clock as he raced by the opposition, after winning the opening face off and launched a rocket into the back of the net.
A few minutes later Rhys Brown buried one on a great headman pass from Christopher Thorne. Matthew Mitchell whacked one in, assisted by Wade Cumberland and deVries.
Late in the second, deVries put in another unassisted goal as he navigated through back-checking forwards and a retreating defence.
Early in the third, Brown fired in a shot assisted by Ben Coram. Beausaert banked one in assisted by Brown and Brandon Smyth. Seconds later Beausaert did it again this time assisted by Mitchell.
Brown finished off the scoring unassisted and recorded a hat trick. Curtis Latter had only a few, but critical stops to record the 8-0 shut out.
Minor Atom AE Rep
TNT vs. East Gwillimbury
The TNT Minor Atom AE Hockey Team sponsored by Briway Carriers met the Aurora Tigers at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Nov. 21.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the first period with a goalmouth scramble. Brady Poirier shot from the point over to Matthew Brett who worked hard to keep it in their zone as they both assisted on Remi Drouin's goal who pounced on a loose rebound to tie the game at 1-1.
While the Tigers were on a powerplay late in the first period, Quinn Big Canoe made a great butterfly save to keep his team in it.
Devin Matson was solid on offence covering for the absence of Kurt Watson. Emma Foerster and Riley Jones also played very well in their defensive zone as Darcy Tainsh was also absent in this one.
There was no scoring in the second. In the third period, the Tigers finally went ahead for the second time in the game with four minutes to play which made the home crowd nervous, but knowing their team still had plenty of time to get things done.
TNT did not disappoint as Lucas Berek quickly won the faceoff and charged to the net along with Devin Matson who made a brilliant pass right back to Lucas who then spotted his brother Zachary as he banged it home to notch it at 2-2 only 11 seconds after the Tigers went ahead.
Connor Wiley provided outstanding goaltending by frustrating the Tigers as both teams settled for a 2-2 tie.
TNT vs. East Gwillimbury
On Sun., Nov. 22 TNT traveled to the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex in Sharon for another match against the Eagles. Both teams got off to a slow start as they played to a scoreless first period.
Lucas Berek got things started on a play that sent Kurt Watson assisting on a goal by Zachary Berek when he quickly realized the goalie failed to smother the puck. Kyle Heydon and Brady Poirier both assisted on the first goal by Austin Russell who made a beautiful backhand. Then Russell made a nice pass to Kyle Heydon who banged it in to put his team ahead 3-0.
The onslaught of scoring continued in the second period as Zachary Berek got his second goal assisted on a nice feed from Watson and Berek who started the play.
Connor Wiley did a superb job of not allowing the Eagles to score as he handed over the net to Quinn Big Canoe for the second half.
Poirier was solid at the point as he kept the puck in and passed to Brody Real who also assisted Austin Russell in netting his second of the game and smelling a hat trick.
All three lines contributed soundly to round off the explosive scoring in the second when Remi Drouin played it back to Bryan Rayburn at the point and he fired it at the net and Peter Carney pounced on it to notch a goal to make it 6-0.
Riley Jones assisted with Brody Real to continue the scoring in the third when Austin Russell did not miss his chance with a great wrist shot to get the hat trick.
Poirier again kept it in at the point as he and Real both picked up their third assist when Heydon blasted his second of the night.
Watson and Berek also picked up their third assist and also congratulated Zachary Berek as he matched teammate Austin for a hat trick with only one second left on the clock.
Emma Foerster and Devin Matson were tremendous at helping Quinn Big Canoe preserve the shutout for an amazing 9-0 TNT win.
TNT vs. East Gwillimbury
The TNT Minor Atom AE Hockey Team sponsored by Briway met the East Gwillimbury Eagles at the New Tec Rec Complex on Thurs. Nov. 26 for a regular season game.
Emma Foerster kept the puck in and passed it to Brody Real, assisting on an opening goal by Austin Russell.
Then Lucas Berek won a face-off deep in his zone and passed it to Kurt Watson who sent Zachary Berek streaming down in the offensive zone and buried the second goal for TNT.
Devin Matson assisted on a goal by passing it to Kurt Watson who fired at the net for a nice redirected goal by Zackary Berek on a play that Foerster had kept alive.
Then Austin Russell scored his second assisted by Brody Real and Kyle Heydon. Matthew Brett made a nice pass to Remi Drouin as he stickhandled his way for a top corner goal. Kurt Watson received a nice pass from Lucas Berek on a play that was started by Devin Matson to finish the first period 6-0.
For the second and third period the coach showed great sportsmanship to the Eagles by moving up his defence players.
Kyle Heydon went digging in the corner over to Brody Real who put it out front for Foerster as she backhanded it thru the goalie's legs to make it 7-0 as she jubilantly scored her first goal of the year.
Peter Carney added the eighth goal assisted by Matt Brett who then also scored goal nine assisted by a play started by Devin Matson who was playing his heart out along with fellow defender Bryan Rayburn.
Kurt Watson finished the scoring unassisted in the third period to win it 10-0.
Quinn Big Canoe blanked the Eagles in the first half and Connor Wiley made a spectacular glove save on a breakaway by the Eagles half way in the third to hold on for another combined shutout.
Barrie Canadian Tire Classic Tournament
The Briway TNT Atom AE rep team lost in the semi-finals in the Barrie Minor Hockey Association/Canadian Tire Classic on the weekend, the team’s second tournament of the season.
TNT vs. Kitchener
In game one, the team faced the Kitchener Rangers Team Red at the East Bayfield Rec Centre.
Watson opened the scoring in the first on a great wrist shot assisted by Emma Foerster. The Rangers got it back shorthanded at the two-minute mark and then took the lead in the last minute of the first.
Darcy Tainsh blocked a big wrist shot and Bryan Rayburn broke up a play to help TNT turn things around.
Watson came on and tied it on a nice breakaway pass along the boards by Brady Poirier.
Peter Carney then fed a pass to Matt Brett who buried it for a 3-2 lead. Brody Real and Kyle Heydon assisted on Austin Russell's amazing goal from a bad angle.
Matson wired Drouin a pass and he fired a long wrist shot that was screened by two defenders.
Lucas Berek completed the scoring for TNT by banking one off the defender to make it 6-3.
The Rangers got two back only to see Connor Wiley hold his team in for the remainder of the third to win it 6-5.
TNT vs. Georgina
On Friday TNT faced Georgina and the Blaze got the only goal in the first. Watson made a beautiful deke to tie it at 1-1 unassisted early in the second. The Blaze went ahead not long after only to see Kurt Watson tie it up again in the third assisted by Matt Brett.
Foerster and Matson played good defence, however Georgina got a lucky bounce off the cross bar and scored on the rebound to take the lead in a game that saw Quinn Big Canoe play awesome for TNT in net.
Georgina scored an empty net marker to defeat the Tornados 4-2.
TNT vs. East Gwillimbury
On Saturday TNT participated in and won the Relay and Chariot Skill Competitions between. Then the team met the East Gwillimbury Eagles needing a win to advance to the semi-finals combined with a Georgina win.
Austin Russell picked up a nice goal assisted by Heydon. Carney assisted on a Remi Drouin wraparound goal to go up 2-0.
Heydon assisted with Russell who shot on goal and Real stuffed in the rebound.
Riley Jones kept it in for TNT and passed it to Matt Brett who assisted on Carney's goal in the second. Real and Austin Russell assisted on Kyle Heydon's goal.
Peter Carney won a faceoff and passed over to Remi Drouin as he scored for TNT.
Lucas Berek completed the scoring unassisted for a 7-0 TNT win.
Semi-Finals
TNT vs. Kitchener Blue
Finally, on Sunday the Tornados had advanced to the semi-finals and met up with the Kitchener Rangers Blue Team.
Watson assisted on the opening goal by Russell finally ending the Ranger Blue team’s shut-out streak in the Barrie tournament.
A powerplay early in the second tied it up for Kitchener.
The Rangers took the lead in the second period, but Quinn Big Canoe's solid goaltending and a play started by Bryan Rayburn tied it up for TNT, this time on a powerplay when Matt Brett shot it hard and Peter Carney pounced on the rebound
TNT was penalized twice giving the strong opposition a 5-3 man advantage. TNT killed off the first penalty, but not the second as the Rangers scored on a mad scramble in TNT's goal crease.
Another powerplay afforded to TNT failed to tie things up for the Tornados and the Rangers later added another goal to take a 4-2 lead.
TNT pulled its goalie hoping to make a comeback, but were denied dashing their hopes to advance to their second tournament finals in a row. Great team effort.
TNT Peewee House League
Pizza Pizza Sharks vs. White Panthers
On Sun., Nov. 22 the TNT White Panthers were looking for revenge having suffered their only defeat of the regular season at the hands of the Pizza Pizza Sharks.
The Sharks got on the board first as Anthony McLeary scored from Jacob Pearce at 7:28 of the first, but that goal seemed to inspire the Panthers to play harder.
The Panthers were rewarded when Thomas Kruck's shot deflected off a Shark player’s stick to tie the game.
The Sharks seemed rattled and their defensive zone coverage let them down as the Panthers scored two more before the first was over. Carter Jebb and Kruck made it 3-1 going into the second.
The Sharks seemed to settle down and fought back to tie it in the second with goals from McLeary and Mark Saunders with assists going to Blair Elen, Jay Rutledge and McLeary.
The teams then traded goals to finish the second period 5-5. Scoring for the Panthers were Brett Craig and Kruck with his third. Scoring for the Pizza Pizza Sharks were Blair Elen and McLeary with his third, assists to Willem Pos, Saunders, Elen and Routledge.
The teams fought hard in the third but after the Sharks were called for tripping in the offensive zone, the Panthers were able to capitalize with Kruck's fourth of the game and goalie Tanner Teal shut the Sharks out in the third.
The Panthers added the insurance goal at 5:12 on Craig's second. Once again the fans enjoyed an exciting game that could have gone either way, with the final score 7-5 for the Panthers.
