More money needed for Coventry Park work

New Tecumseth Council Notes

BY Maija Hoggett, Staff   July 02, 2009 18:07

Updating the Coventry Park Pavilion in Tottenham is costing the town more than was anticipated.

Monday night New Tecumseth council approved an additional $69,000 for the project to meet specifications of the structural and soils engineers. The town is also transferring $11,000 from the general parks development account to replace lighting fixtures, partitions and toilets that have been removed from the existing structure.

The Tottenham and District Ball Association built the Coventry Park Pavilion in 1996 and it was used until 2008 when the building department deemed it to be structurally unsound and it was condemned.

The 2009 budget, $75,000 was approved to rebuild the pavilion from the ground up, leaving the foundation in place.

In March the family of Michael Worrod, who died in car accident in 2007, donated $4,000 towards the renovations at the park. The donation will allow for new pavilion signage.

The Worrods have also asked the town to rename the park Michael Worrod Pavilion.
