Police raid homes, seize drugs in west Alliston

Nine people arrested, weapons also found

BY Staff   June 30, 2009 15:06

Drug raids at two Alliston homes yesterday have led to the arrest of nine people.

The accused face several drug possession and trafficking charges as well as weapons offenses.

Nottawasaga OPP and OPP drug enforcement officers executed simultaneous search warrants on both homes. Police do not believe the two drug operations are related, however.

The raids turned up an assortment of weapons, including two rifles, ammunition, and prohibited knives. Officers also seized 315 grams of psilocybin (magic mushrooms), 16 grams of cannabis resin (hasish), 14 grams of methamphetamine, 14 grams of cocaine, 130 grams of marijuana and one ecstasy tablet.

The street value of the drugs was about $5,300 according to police. An additional $3,500 in cash and drug paraphernalia was also seized.

Police found young children in both of the homes and are currently investigating their safety.

Two of the accused have been released while the rest were waiting for bail hearings scheduled for June 30 (today).
