Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault is in his last days overseeing the Everett and Loretto fire stations. He has accepted a fulltime position as fire chief in Brant County.

Adjala-Tos fire chief moving on

Will head up Brant County Fire Department

Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Department Chief Paul Boissonneault is in his last weeks with the local department.

Boissonneault's last day with the ATFD is July 3 and he starts a new position in Brant County July 6. In Brant, Boissonneault will be the fulltime fire chief and oversee nine stations, almost 180 volunteer firefighters and 10 fulltime staff.

"I'm very excited, but certainly I leave with a heavy heart," he said.

Boissonneault has been the fire chief for Adjala-Tosorontio since 2004 and has been with the Department of National Defence Fire Hall on Base Borden since 2003.

In his time with Adjala-Tosorontio, Boissonneault said he has worked to improve customer service and create a unified fire department between the Everett and Loretto stations.

"I set goals to do five years ago and can say I achieved all of them. I can leave with my head held high," said Boissonneault.

To achieve his vision for the ATFD, he has worked to have the station's volunteers attend the same training sessions, ensure both stations attend fundraisers together and what he's bought for one station he has bought for the other.

"I've broken down a lot of walls that were there before and the department is better for it," said Boissonneault.

He has also worked to show the need for a fulltime fire chief position in Adjala-Tosorontio, where the position is currently part time. He said he has worked tirelessly to education the township and show the need to bring the level of fire service up.

Moving away from the area was a hard decision for Boissoneault to make. He was born in Alliston and has always lived in the area. Boissoneault and his wife Jennifer have also started raising their family, sons Cole and Gage, in the area.

"On a career progression, it's certainly a move that I thought I needed to make," said Boissonneault.

It isn't known who the new fire chief for the Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Department will be. A meeting is scheduled for officers with the department this week for suggestions. He said there are also ongoing discussions with the Adjala-Tosorontio chief administrative officer to find a replacement.
