Driver viciously attacks police officer

BY Staff   June 22, 2009 17:06

Both a 48-year-old Innisfil man and a South Simcoe Police officer were taken to hospital after an incident on the 10th Conc. of Innisfil Friday night.

The officer had pulled over a vehicle when the driver got out of the car and aggressively approached the constable. The man punched the officer and was pepper sprayed in response.

The man continued to attack the officer, kicking him several times in the head. To protect himself, the officer drew his baton and struck the man and brought him under control. Paramedics took both to Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

The officer was not seriously hurt. The driver was charged with assaulting police and assault to resist arrest.
