Another fatal in Sunnidale

BY Michael Gennings, Staff   June 18, 2009 10:06

There has been another fatal motor vehicle collision in Clearview Township, this time claiming the life of an 18-year-old local man.

Police have identified the deceased as Nicholas Meyer of New Lowell .

The Huronia West OPP report that around 6 a.m. this morning (June 18) emergency workers were called to Switzer Street in New Lowell, where a vehicle had left the road and struck a tree.

Const. Mark Kinney says OPP traffic investigators were on scene for much of the day, trying to piece together what happened.

Kinney said the green four-door vehicle was southbound on Sunnidale 9/10 Sideroad when at the intersection with Switzer Street it left the road, became airborne and struck a tree on the west side of Switzer.

“The car was vertical against the tree when we got there,” he said. “It was just a mangled mess.”

Kinney said the driver, who died at the scene, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

He wouldn’t say whether speed played a factor in the crash.

No further details were available.

A week ago, a car crashed into a tree on County Road 9, just west of the village.

Teddy Ames, 37, of New Lowell, died at the scene.

Police have not released any details about what lead to that crash.
