Man in critical condition after Angus shooting

A 53-year-old Angus man was arrested and is facing attempted murder charges after a shooting in Angus early this morning (June 17).

The shooting happened in a motel-style apartment building near the Rainbow Mall parking lot in the west end of the village just after midnight.

Police currently have one of the several units in the building taped off.

They have not released the identity of the victim or the suspect currently in custody.

Neighbours said 57-year-old Fenton Burke, a long-haul truck driver who lives in the apartment, was the victim of the shooting. He is reportedly in the intensive care unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.

Residents of the apartment building said there was a large police presence in the area after the shooting.

Margaret Westaway lives in a unit that backs onto the unit where the shooting took place. She said she remembers a loud noise waking her up, but she isn't sure if it was a gunshot.

"Next thing I saw was nothing but (emergency) lights," she said.

The rest of the tenants were allowed back into their homes, while Nottawasaga OPP and an OPP forensic team investigated the scene.

Along with the apartment unit, police have also taped off a green GMC Sierra pickup truck with Alberta licence plates out front. One neighbour said the pickup, along with a transport truck with Alberta licence plates, both belong to Burke.

Another police cruiser is parked at a home on Simcoe Street, which is also confirmed to be part of the investigation.

Some neighbours said the shooting may have been the result of a love triangle.
