Love triangle may have led to Angus shooting

BY Kurtis Elsner, Staff   June 17, 2009 10:06

A 53-year-old man was arrested by police and is being held in custody after a shooting in Angus last night (Wed., June 17).

Police have released little information, except that an investigation is ongoing.

The shooting happened in a motel-style apartment building on Margaret Street near the Rainbow Mall plaza parking lot. Police currently have one of the seven units in the building taped off.

The Herald has learned that police are also investigating at another Angus home in connection with the investigation. A cruiser is parked out front of a house on Simcoe Street.

Residents on Margaret Street said there was a large police presence in the area around midnight. The rest of the tenants have been allowed back into their units, according to the landlord.

Neighbours say the shooting may have been the result of a love triangle. One man said he was told by police the victim of the shooting is in critical condition in hospital.

Tennants in a neighbouring apartment reported they heard screaming between midnight and  1 a.m. and called an ambulance.

There's no word on who was shot or any charges.

No further information is available and police said more details won't likely be released until tomorrow.
