Warning: Your dog could be next

June 15, 2009 18:06

I sit here in silence in total disbelief.

I cannot recognize this country we live in anymore. They say that we live a free life and have the right to make our own choices, yet they dictate what those choices are.

What happened last week in the courts may not affect you directly, but it is an attack on our way of life. I am speaking of the Supreme Court's decision to not even hear our voices. Today they denied the people the right to be heard. Today they agreed to uphold the idiotic ban on an innocent animal.

I am talking about the notorious pit bull ban.

Since this ban was put in place in 2005 thousands of innocent dogs have been put to there death. Dogs are taken and put to death regardless of their temperament. We have sat back and allowed for even puppies that didn't have a chance to be put to sleep.

There is a lot of misinformation regarding this breed. I ask that you use the internet and actually do some research on this breed. They are good loyal companions. There is no lock jaw, and the breed is even labeled as being good with children.

The ban put in place was a misuse of power. The ban was fast tracked through the system disregarding many expert witnesses stating that the ban in itself would not be in the public's best interest.

You may have misconceived notions of this breed. The problem with every breed of dog is not the breed itself, but the owner.

I agree there should be laws to protect us from those dogs deemed vicious, but the problem is not one specific breed. Owners should be held accountable for their animals and proper action should be taken against those who misuse or mistreat them.

If you think this ruling is good and that it will never affect you, think again. They can add any breed of choice to this list without the public's knowledge. You never know it could be your faithful companion they come after next.

Alliston
