New additions at two local schools

June 12, 2009 14:06

Two local elementary schools are getting additions after a multimillion-dollar funding announcement from the Ontario government this morning (Fri., June 12).

Father F.X. O’Reilly School in Tottenham is getting $3 million for renovations and Angus Morrison Elementary School in Angus is getting $1.1 million.

F.X. O’Reilly principal Jurgen Schneider said the community, staff and students are very excited about the announcement.

“We’re thrilled to hear that. It’s long overdue down here at Father O’Reilly,” said Schneider. “The people here have been waiting for a long time for this.”

The money will mean eight new classrooms at the Tottenham school, along with an improved field and renovated washrooms. Some construction is expected to begin this summer and the whole project is expected to be complete by September 2011, he said.

The principal for Angus Morrison E.S. was not immediately available for comment.
