Wasaga Beach is on board with buses

June 04, 2009 10:06

The interests of the citizens of Wasaga Beach are uppermost in the minds of the mayor and town council of Wasaga Beach, proof being, the addition of a second bus, running at half-hour intervals, and a second route to give the riders access to the full length of the town.

With the population of Wasaga Beach swelling to 50,000 in the summer season, these buses are becoming a Godsend, allowing the tourists to park their cars in a designated lot.

Using transit allows them to cut down on traffic congestion and pollution.

The transit issue has become a contentious issue in New Tecumseth for many years. Since or mayor and town council cut off funding for the town bus, which was a pilot project, after two years in operation.

They snatched it right out from under the noses of the citizens who used it on a regular basis and had begun to depend on it.

Said transit issue will be on the forefront of the upcoming 2010 municipal election. It will be a focal point and, if I remember right, Christine Brayford used the transit issue as part of her platform when campaigning for a council. Oops! She dropped the ball. In fact, I don't think she even tried to catch it. Not acceptable!

Promises are only as good as the person who makes them. Think about it.

The upcoming election should prove to be interesting. We shall see!

Shirley Guy,
Alliston
