Fred Eaglesmith

Fred Eaglesmith concert on Thursday at Gibson

BY Staff   March 03, 2009 18:03

Fred Eaglesmith, who regularly packs venues throughout Canada and the United States with countryfied wit set to music, will bring his well-travelled road show to The Gibson Centre for the Arts in Alliston on Thurs., March 5.

The 2009 Juno Nominated singer-songwriter plays over 200 shows per year from the dusty plains of Texas to the far reaches of Iqaluit. But while the Port Dover native's career demands he travel worldwide, he dreams of playing the places he knows, loves, and has sung about on 17 CDs - the small towns of Ontario and the community-run halls that are their heart and soul.

Making a name for himself with songs about balers, harvesters and old hand crack machines, Eaglesmith could find no better place than The Gibson Centre, a farm implement factory turned cultural centre, to make this dream a reality.

Joining Eaglesmith on stage will be The Flying Squirrels, a backup band featuring drummer Kori Heppner, guitarist Matty Simpson, and bassist Luke Stackhouse. Reviews of Eaglesmith's work never fail to mention how hard it is to pigeonhole his style or the rapport he is able to create with his audience. With songs that have been covered by the likes of Toby Keith and a special brand of onstage banter that's both funny and insightful, the stage is set for a memorable evening.

Tickets are available at the Gibson Centre Box Office and online at www.fredeaglesmith.com.
