M*A*S*H Bash ready to rock the slopes

BY Kurtis Elsner, Staff   February 05, 2009 19:02

Skiers and snowboarders will be hitting the slopes and supporting a good cause Feb. 13.

The 22nd annual M*A*S*H Bash in support of Royal Victoria Hospital is at Snow Valley, and organizers are hoping for big crowds to join in on the fun.

"It's a great event for people to get out and enjoy the outdoors, to be able to enjoy family (time) and skiing, and have a lot of fun," said Aaron Lutes from RVH. "We're just so happy that not only are families going to be doing this together, but the money raised helps keep families closer together when they're getting cancer treatment in Barrie, as opposed to Toronto."

All of the proceeds will go towards the RVH phase one expansion, including the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre.

Along with a day of skiing and snowboarding, there will be several other events and activities, including live music, bedpan races and other games for children.

CFB Borden is one of the many event sponsors, and the Canadian Forces will be on hand with displays of military vehicles and field hospital setups.

If weather permits, a CH-146 Griffon helicopter is expected to land that morning. Organizers are also asking visitors to wear red to show support for Canadian troops.

Skiing and snowboarding is open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Games and events will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be live music played by To Be Determined (that's the name of the band).

There will also be several mascots on the hills to make sure everyone is having a good time.

Tickets are $20. All proceeds go towards the hospital.

Admission is $5 for Snow Valley season-pass holders and for CFB Borden personnel dressed in combat fatigues.

Snow Valley is on Snow Valley Road, west of Wilson Drive, northwest of Barrie.
