There’s no doubt the Alliston Hornets went to Penetanguishene on Friday looking to leave with a win over their toughest league rivals. But no one could have predicted they would devastate the home team in the first period and leave the ice with a 10-4 slam dunk over the Kings.

Penetang is in second place in league standings with a 16-6-1 record and are the only squad that beaten the Hornets this season.

The Alliston squad took on the Midland Flyers the following night in Midland and left with an 11-2 win.

The Hornets scored five times in the first five minutes of the first period in Friday's game against Penetang.

Centre Kurtis Brossard scored a pair in the opening three minutes on assists from Jason Campeau.

Chris Brown got the third Alliston marker at 4:12 into the frame after taking the feed from Ryan Algar.

Mike Campeau got two more by the five minute mark on assists from Pat McCarron.

The sixth Hornets goal came late in the period from Jason Campeau on an an assist from Chad Camirand.

Penetang's Brad Baum put the Kings on the scoreboard late in the first period on a power play opportunity.

The Kings pulled goalie Chris Daniels after the first three goals and put Jacob McKendry between the posts but he didn't fair much better against the Hornets offence.

The Alliston squad let up a little in the second period allowing two goals from Penetang forwards Corey Hastings and Evan Cole.

Ryan Algar scored to give the Hornets number seven for the game.

Alliston administered the coup d' grace in the third with a pair from Chad Camirand and two assists credited to Cody Rhodes.

Randy Cox got a third period marker midway in the frame after taking the feed from Kyle Montpetit.

The win must have sent a shudder down the spines of the rest of the teams in the Georgian Bay Mid Ontario Hockey League. Penetang has been a strong squad over the past several seasons and has stayed in second place this year with solid performances through the season.  The Kings were considered the team mostly likely to give the Hornets a hard time this year.

The trip to Midland the following night was predictable with a win for the Hornets over the last-place Flyers. But two short handed goals in the first period said a lot about the way the Alliston squad can control the ice.

Three more in the second period and  a third frame that saw six shots hit the mark gave the Hornets their twenty-second win of the season.

The Hornets have two home games this weekend. On Fri., Dec. 5, the Midland Flyers will be in town for a scheduled 7:30 p.m. start. The Fergus Devils will be at the New Tecumseth Recreation Complex to face the Hornets on Sun., Dec. 7. The puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
