•Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Simcoe is preparing for its Christmas Toy Drive and Christmas Family Sponsorship Program. The funds and gifts collected go directly towards the Christmas adoption program. Please contact the office at 905-936-9788. County of Simcoe Paramedic Services from Alliston will be collecting toys and food during the Tottenham Parade. They will also be collecting after the parade at Tottenham Price Chopper.
•CONTACT and The Gibson Centre are looking for Christmas gift wrappers. Toys are being donated through the Gibson Centre theatre and CONTACT will be wrapping and distributing them to children in the community. Come out to the CONTACT Community Kitchen (16 Paris St.) to help share a little Christmas spirit. Two dates have been set: Tues., Dec. 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Thurs., Dec. 4 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Volunteers can join for one or both time slots. •Parenting can be a rewarding but often frustrating job. The Ontario Early Years Centre in Alliston offers parenting courses on a wide variety of topics. Call 705-435-4308 for more information and scheduled workshops and courses. There aren't any magic answers but participants will get new strategies and tips.
•Everyone is welcome to attend a Country Christmas Bazaar, Craft and Bake Sale at Trinity United Church in Thornton Sat., Nov. 29. It is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be baking, crafts, a silent auction, a white elephant table and guests. There will also be a continental breakfast for $4 (proceeds from breakfast for the Mission and Service Fund). Craft table rentals are available for $20. For more information, call 458-1353.
•CLASS (Community Living Association for South Simcoe) is hosting its annual craft show at the Gibson Centre, Sat, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and do some shopping. •Knox Presbyterian Church Choir and Friends present its Christmas Cantata, And Glory Shone Around, at Mansfield Presbyterian Church, Airport Road Sun., Nov. 30 at 2:30 p.m. and at Knox Presbyterian Church, King St. S. on Sun., Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Freewill Offering. Refreshments will be served after the program.
•A lively piano concert with Alexander Seredenko of the Glenn Gould School is at the Honda Performance Hall, Gibson Centre, Sun., Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and can be purchased at The Gibson Centre or through Lawrence Lindsay by calling 705-435-7125.
•Matthews House Hospice is having bereavement walks Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by an inexpensive lunch together. Held in a variety of walking locations throughout South Simcoe, an average of 4 to 5 km is walked each Saturday. Each walker sets his/her own pace. •CONTACT's Volunteer South Simcoe is teaming up with the Alliston Herald to give local not-for-profit organizations the opportunity to spread the word about their need for volunteers. Groups or clubs offering volunteer opportunities to residents should e-mail their details to isabelle@contactsouthsimcoe.ca. In addition to appearing on CONTACT's volunteer opportunities board, a regular column listing the opportunities will appear in the Weekend Edition of the Alliston Herald. Please be sure to include any special requirements or skills volunteers will need, how much of their time is required as well as information about how they should contact your organization. You can also post volunteer opportunities directly on the Volunteer South Simcoe website at www.volunteersouthsimcoe.ca. Registration is free.
