TNT Tornados Minor Hockey Report
TNT Novice AE Rep
TNT vs. Richmond Hill
Nov. 15 - The TNT Novice AE Rep hockey team, sponsored by Briway Carriers, were back on the ice Saturday in Tottenham facing the Richmond Hill Stars.
TNT's Jeremy Anderson started the scoring early in the first period assisted by Peter Carney and Luigi DePalma.
With five minutes remaining in the period, Tyson Foerster scored the next goal unassisted.
Just 30 seconds into the second period, Trenton Bailey scored the third goal of the game assisted by Luke Berek and Zack Berek.
After an intense scramble in front of Richmond Hill's net, Foerster's backhand goal, assisted by Brody Real brought the score to 4-0 for TNT. Jeremy Anderson then scored his second goal of the game unassisted, and with 30 seconds left in the second period, Foerster scored his hat trick goal, assisted by Darcy Tanish.
In the third period, Zack Berek scored the seventh goal of the game, assisted by Luke Berek.
Kevin McConnery scored the final goal assisted by Brody Real and Foerster to finish with a final score of 8-0.
TNT vs. Aurora
Nov. 2 - After losing to the Aurora Tigers on Halloween, the Major Midget Tornados, proudly sponsored by Prudential Ronan Realty hosted Aurora to a re-match to set the record straight.
The first period saw Aurora score twice with TNT answering once courtesy of Joey Nieleszeruk.
The second period saw plenty of back and forth play with only one goal noted for TNT by Robbie McCarron off a perfect pass set-up.
That tied the game and sent the two teams into an exciting third period. The Tornados spun the Tigers into a twist a capped it off with Ted Hoy intercepting the puck and driving it into the twine right through the five-hole to give TNT the win.
Nov. 5 - A mid-week visit to Barrie saw a penalty riddled game between the two arch rivals. At one point, each penalty box was full with five players each serving misconducts or penalties and Barrie was leading the game from the first period on.
They even had a penalty shot opportunity that the TNT goa keeper, Ian Ross, absolutely robbed them of.
Finally in the third period, TNT's Kyle Pattison was able to score on a set-up from Tommie Warren and then Rob McCarron tapped in a sneaky one from behind the net off the goalie's skate. That brought the Tornados to within one.
With approximately four minutes left on the clock, the referee informed the benches that the game would be curfewed at 11 p.m. The game was called and TNT lost by one goal.
Nov. 9 - The last TNT met these fellas was in Markham and TNT was waxed without sympathy. This time it would be a different story. Although the Tornados allowed Markham to realize three goals for their efforts, TNT took five of their own.
Mitch Fenech ducked in a beauty backhand on the keeper's glove side, then Sean Morley tipped in Travis Westlake's missile from the blueline. Captain Dan Stamcos poked one in for good measure and Morley took the interception and turned it into a goal.
Finally, Joey Nieleszeruk pushed the fifth goal through in a scrum in front of the net.
Nov. 10 - TNT hosted the Stars in the "Dodge" arena. The final score would be TNT 5 - Richmond Hill 3 and the scoring was courtesy of Joey, Dan, Ted, Sean Morley, and finally Sean Petersen set up Stamcos in front for the fifth.
Stoney Creek Tournament of Champions
TNT vs. Cobourg Cougars
Fri. Nov. 14 - In their second tournament of the season, the TNT Major Midgets, proudly sponsored by Prudential Ronan Realty Ltd., travelled to Stoney Creek ready and willing to go the distance. Cobourg came out fast and furious and the Tornados skated right along with them but allowed them to score two in the first period.
The second period saw many chances for the Tornados but it wasn't until the third period when TNT was awarded a penalty shot that Captain Dan Stamcos nailed it home to get his team on the board.
With the final seconds ticking away and a two-man advantage, TNT was unable to tie the game and took the loss 2-1.
Fri., Nov. 14 - This was a controversial game from the beginning with plenty of penalty minutes but mostly for the Jaguars. Joe and Mitch both got on the board in the second period to take the lead and then the third period belonged to TNT as the official kept the opposition penalty box very busy. TNT capitalized on their opportunities and took the victory 4-3.
Sat., Nov. 15 - This game belonged to the Tornados and by the time they were finished with them, the Hawks didn't know whether to fly north or south. Dan Stamcos scored two goals and Ted Hoy nailed the capper. After giving one to Caledon, the final score was 3-1.
Nov. 15 - The host team waited with the bye all day as they came first in their division. TNT was ready for them.
Ted Hoy opened the scoring as he launched a surface missile at close range. Stoney Creek had a goal called back and that set the tone for the rest of the game.
TNT goalie Ian Ross absolutely burned the Warriors on a scrum where he literally did an acrobatic routine to control the puck and take it out of play.
With 13:59 on the clock in the third period, Jake Moulton tapped in a rebound from Hoy's attempt to put the score to 2-0.
The Tornados moved on to the semi-finals.
Sat., Nov. 15 - The rain poured heavily all day in Hamilton with no let up. As with many tournaments, the timeline gradually slid back with delays over the course of the day and by the time TNT was to play the semi-final they didn't actually get on the ice until 9 p.m. The old Saltfleet Arena with its low ceiling and small ice surface proved too much for the Tornados. They got behind early and could not re-group to turn it around. Suffice it to say, they did not reign victorious.
Major Midget of the Week
The Major Midget Player of the Week can be no other than Captain Dan Stamcos for the number of goals he obtained as well as the number of opportunities he created. Unfortunately, he is challenged with a temperamental shoulder that gives him trouble periodically and that left him unable to play in the tournament semi-final game.
