OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino is helping Nottawasaga OPP to Lick Impaired Driving this holiday season.

Fantino will be a part of the annual campaign's kickoff festivities at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort's Centre Ice Sportsplex Sun., Nov. 30.

Fantino isn't the only celebrity who will be in attendance. Former NHLers Eddie Shack and Darrin Shannon, who also the coach of the 2008 Schmalz Cup winning Alliston Hornets, will be at the event.

Lick Impaired Driving sees thousands of lollipops handed out at local restaurants. Attached to the lollipops are tags bearing the Lick Impaired Driving slogan and anti-impaired driving messages.

The campaign kick off also marks the start of the Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) programs.

Since Lick Impaired Drivers began three years ago, it has grown rapidly. Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Ontario Community Council of Impaired Driving, the Ministry of Transportation, local emergency services, schools and Scouts and Girl Guides of Canada have signed on.

Centre Ice is located on Highway 89 east of Alliston. The event will begin at noon. Fantino is the keynote speaker. Following the opening ceremonies there is a free family skate at Centre Ice.

There will also be a silent auction for a couple of Toronto Maple Leafs jerseys signed by players.
