Santa Claus Parade Saturday
Flu shot clinics are being held this month in Thornton and Angus. You may visit the Thornton arena on Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Angus arena on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Remember these clinics are free and no appointment is necessary.
Zion Presbyterian Church is holding its Christmas bazaar and bake sale on Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will served from 11 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. On the menu is stew, beverages and dessert. Adults eat for $7 and children from six to 12 eat for $3.50.
It's starting to look a lot like Christmas! The Angus Santa Claus Parade is this Sat., Nov. 15. Form up at Peacekeeper's Park at 10 a.m. and travel along Mill Street to the Essa Arena where refreshments will be served.
A surprise birthday party is being held for George Scase on Nov. 15 at the Creemore Arena, 218 Collingwood St. The party starts at 3 p.m. There will be games, potluck-style food and reminiscing. The Angus Horticultural Society is holding its yearly wrap-up meeting on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at Angus United Church on Jonas Street. All are welcome. See you all in the spring.
The veterans from Sunnybrook Hospital will be visiting the Angus branch of the Royal Canadian Legion on Nov. 22. Please come out and show your support.
The Lisle Legion is serving breakfast Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. till noon. Adults eat for $5.50, children under 12, $2.50. On Nov. 23, join Best Kept Secret's and DJ's Pizza and Café for a fun-filled evening supporting a good cause. The evening's events include a Christmas cooking demonstration, Christmas table setting, exclusive shopping and taste testing and a turkey dinner. Plans are underway for the annual Sunnidale Winterama which is being held from Feb. 5 to Feb. 8. An open meeting is being held at the legion in New Lowell on Nov. 24.
After a number of years Nancy Kennedy has retired as the organizer of the Queen pageant. The executive would like to thank her for all of the time and effort that she has put into this event. As there is no one in line to take on her position, the executive will explore a competition that would include more residents.
In addition more executive members are needed: a food coordinator, the Saturday activities coordinator, as well as a coordinator for the Friday night festivities.

Come celebrate the francophone celebration La Sainte Catherine on Nov. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ontario Early Years Centre on Mill Street. There will be songs, dancing, games and stories.
A very important fundraiser is being held this month at the Lisle legion. A local volunteer firefighter named Tubo Kueper was recently involved in a head-on collision while returning from the fire hall.
He is currently in the hospital undergoing several surgeries. The Lisle legion is running a fundraiser in support. It will be held on Nov. 28 from 1 p.m. till close as a drop-in. A dance will start at 8 p.m. All money raised will go directly to Tubo Kueper and his family. Please come out and show your support for a man who bravely puts his life on the line to help others.
The Angus United Church is having a euchre party on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5 and there will be share the wealth and refreshments will be served.
The Lisle Santa Claus Parade will take place on Dec. 7 starting at 1:30 p.m. The Lisle community hall will be serving soup and chili for lunch along with a bake sale starting at 12:30 p.m. After the parade, make your way down to the Lisle legion to meet Santa. Kids under 12 years old will enjoy a hotdog, hot chocolate and a treat bag courtesy of the Lisle Lions and the Lisle Recreation Committee.
Essa council is hosting a free family skate on Boxing Day from noon until 4 p.m. Come out and work off all of that Christmas baking!
The 2009 "Historic Hamlets of Essa Township" calendars are on sale from the Essa Historical Society. You can also purchase books about Ivy, Thornton and Egbert. Public skating has begun at the Angus arena. The schedule is Sundays from noon until 1:20 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. The cost is $2 per person. Preschoolers are free. The arena also holds a free parent and tot skate on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. till noon.
