TNT Tornados Minor Hockey
TNT Novice Rep
Nov. 9 - Sunday afternoon the TNT Novice Reps were at home at the New Tec Rec Complex against Aurora. It was an exciting game with TNT dominating the third period and recording a 7-3 victory.
Early in the first, Wade Cumberland banged in a goal, assisted by Kyle Heydon and Caden Maher to start the scoring.
Aurora battled back to tie the game midway through the second.
With minutes left on the clock Nathan Smilsky scored his first, assisted by Brandon Smyth, and put TNT ahead.
Early in the third, Aurora fought back hard and netted a goal to tie the game for a second time.
Then Smilsky scored his second, assisted by Maher and Ben Beausaert to break the tie. Connor deVries found the back of the net, assisted by Cumberland and Maher.
Aurora battled back with a goal, but it was not enough to stop the TNT scoring spree. Smilsky scored his third goal of the game, assisted by Beausaert and Smyth.
Matthew Mitchell scored a fantastic goal assisted by Beausaert. Heydon fired a shot past the Aurora goalkeeper, assisted by deVries and Cumberland to finish off the scoring.
The team has a break until Fri., Nov. 21 when they are on the road against Georgina.
TNT vs. Peterborough
TNT's Minor Atom AE Rep team travelled to Peterborough and lost 4-2. The team is sponsored by Gibson Feed Mill.
There was no scoring for TNT until the third period when Ryan Burley passed the puck up to Ethan Byrne who passed it over to Quinlan Keene who shot it into the net. Minutes later Nick Loucks scored assisted by Blake Faulds. TNT could not make a comeback, despite the team effort in the third period.
TNT vs. Stouffville
The team hosted Stouffville at the Tottenham arena. It was a great defensive game. Ryan Burley and Cole Verlinde both had a strong, solid game as usual, minimizing the scoring chances for the opponents.
Matthew Leblanc used his speed, getting back and knocking the puck off of Stouffville's sticks.
Dylan Jobin worked well digging behind the net, getting it out and up to the forwards. Jack Moore did a great job clearing the puck out of our end and Quinlan Keene was stopping them at the blue line, and taking the odd rush to the net.
Stouffville scored in the first period making it 1-0. Nick Loucks scored in the second period for TNT assisted by Blake Faulds and Clare Wilson. Thinking it was going to end in a 1-1 tie, Clare Wilson scored with 39 seconds left in the game, assisted by Quinlan Keene giving TNT a 2-1 win. Great efforts from the forwards: Ethan Byrne, Aidan Sweeney, Aidan Bonca, Dylan Pehlemann, Preston Kopp, Nick Loucks, Blake Faulds, Zak Lockhart, and Clare Wilson.
Nov. 9 - On Sunday Newmarket came to play TNT at the NTRC. TNT was down a couple players, going with four defencemen: Matthew Leblanc, Dylan Jobin, Cole Verlinde, and Ryan Burley who all had an excellent game. It was a back and forth game, with neither team scoring, ending in a 0-0 tie. Jack Moore was moved up and he played a good game on forward. Ryan Angenent did a great job in net, getting a shutout.
Nov. 10 - Monday the team went to Keswick to play Georgina. It was another exciting and close game. Jobin, Verlinde, Burley, and Leblanc were once again strong on defense. Going into the third period with no score, we were wondering if it was going to be another 0-0 tie. Cole Verlinde had a nice rush on the net.
In the third period, Nick Loucks scored a wrap-around goal for TNT. Ryan Angenent was hot between the pipes leading the team to a 1-0 win and another shut out.
Great coaching for the Gibson Feed Mill team by Todd Jobin (head coach), Peter Angenent, Stan Bonca and Shawn Sweeney.
TNT vs. Georgina
Nov. 8 - It was tough times for the Pampered Pet Lodge-sponsored TNT AA Peewee Tornados as they tied one and lost one this past weekend.
Hosting a tough, scrappy Georgina, the Tornados found themselves housebound in their own end for most of the first period, and only the superb goaltending of Q (Quintyn Farrar) kept the locals down 1-0.
A scoreless second period saw both teams throwing hard body checks and the defence of Lucas Smilsky, Kyler Mathews and Andrew Ceolin kept Georgina at bay. The tide was turning as Alex Rattasid, assisted by Blake Murray, knotted the score at 1-1. Despite outshooting Georgina in the third period, the final score remained 1-1.
Nov. 9 - Playing without two players, the Peewee Tornados travelled to Richmond Hill on Sunday and left their game in the dressing room.
By the middle of the second period, Richmond Hill led 3-0 and would have increased that lead if goalie Sean Caulfield had not made several key saves. Andrew Ceolin, assisted by Jakob Biffis cut the score to 3-1 and the Tornados were coming to life. Some good solid goaltending by the Richmond Hill goalie kept TNT at bay until they managed another goal to win 4-1.
The Tornados are off to a tournament in London this coming weekend and hope to return to their winning ways.
