TNT Major Bantams open season with a 2-1-1 record

TNT Novice Rep

The TNT Novice Reps seem to win wherever they play. This week entertained TNT families and fans with a back to back pair of victories.

TNT vs. Georgina

TNT traveled to Gerogina for an end-to-end, action packed game. The team won 3-1. Assistant Coach Glen Foerster was quoted as saying how strong the TNT goaltending was during the game.

Goals for TNT were from Nathan Smilsky assisted by Connor Devries, followed by a goal from Devries, assisted by Smilsky and Ben Coram. Devries scored to end the game assisted by Smilsky.

TNT vs. Markham

TNT was at home in Tottenham against Markham. In the end it was TNT with a 9-2 win.

In first period action, Christopher Thorne made a quick defensive rush to score unassisted, setting the pace for the high scoring game. Rhys Brown scored shortly after unassisted followed by a goal from Connor Devries assisted by Brandon Smyth and Jordan Maiolino.

In the second period, the TNT scoring continued with three unanswered goals. Devries scored, assisted by Brandon Smyth and Maiolino. Ben Beausaert scored assisted by Matthew Mitchell and Caden Maher. Smilsky found the net, assisted by Maiolino and Devries.

Late in the period Devries got his second of the game assisted by Thorne.

Midway through the third, Smilsky netted his second of the game unassisted. Wade Cumberland scored on a bullet-like shot, assisted by Kyle Heydon and Mitchell.

Markham briefly battled back with a couple of late period goals. Remi Drouin brought the team home with a great goal assisted by Maher and Beausaert.

The team was then off to a long weekend tournament in Georgetown. Results of that event next week.

TNT Major Bantam Rep

TNT vs. Markham

Sept. 14 - The TNT Bantam AA Tornados, proudly sponsored by Brisco Furniture and Appliances, opened up their 2008/2009 season Sept. 14 against Markham. The team thought it was prepared, but Markham came out strong and by the end of the second period led 3-0.

With 4:41 left in the third, Josh Scott cashed in on a lucky bounce off the side of the net and snapped one short side. Final Score was 3-1 for Markham.

While it wasn't exactly the start the TNT teams was hoping for, it showed them how far they've come (they lost 6-1 to the Waxers in the first game the previous year) and how far they still need to go.

TNT vs. Newmarket

Sept. 18 - The team was at the Magna Centre to battle Newmarket.

This time TNT struck first with a pretty tic-tac-toe passing play between Brendan Clapham and Brian Wilkins which saw Scott sneak in from the high slot and put it in top corner.

Less than five minutes later though Newmarket was back in the game with a lucky bounce.

The third frame saw Blake Finnemore set up Mackenzie Sealy for a slapper from the point that the goalie saved, but Brenden Markus was there to bury the rebound.

The Redmen managed to tie it up with yet another unlucky bounce. The game ended that way, tied at two apiece.

TNT goaltender Marshall Young had a great game and kept TNT in the game save after save including one glove-hand snag through a crowd that gave him no time to react, he still somehow stopped it.

TNT vs. Richmond Hill

Sept. 21 - The team was back in Alliston to play the Richmond Hill Stars. Again TNT got off to a strong start, scoring four minutes into the first period. Sealy and Clapham passed to Brandon Pfeiffer who snuck one in far side to make it 1-0 Tornados.

Richmond Hill came back fast and by the end of the first period it was a tie game.

This was a close affair, and with solid support in net from Peter Angenent TNT stayed in the game.

At 12:05 of the third period Michael Blanchard passed to Clapham, and he brought the puck in and dropped it high slot, tying up both defenders and clearing the way for Scott who sniped one in top left corner. But the Stars got another, and that was how it finished, 2-2.

TNT vs. Georgina

Sept. 5 - TNT faced the Georgina Blaze at the Keswick Ice Palace. The Tornados had chance after chance throughout the first two periods and if it wasn't for the Markham goalie the score could have easily been 5-0 or 6-0 going into the third, but it was scoreless.

Finally Anthony Lombardi managed to slip one through, with a sharp angle on the Blaze netminder.

Insurance came from none other than Joe Proper, who snatched away a loose puck and hammered it home to make it 2-0 for the Tornados.

Georgina tried to mount a comeback but came up short, thanks in part to sound defensive efforts by Travis Shibley, Cole Giesler, Chase Nelson, and hard hitting by Zack Riddell. The final score was 2-1 for TNT.

TNT Major Midget Reps

TNT vs. Newmarket

On a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend, the TNT Major Midgets had much to be thankful for beginning with the steadfast sponsorship of Prudential Ronan Realty and its owner, Marc Ronan.

Since the team's last report, they have played the Newmarket Redmen and lost 3-1 which was totally surprising to everyone that the TNT squad didn't get whalloped,, but the boys came out to play and play they did.

Sean Morley was the lone goalgetter with Rob McCarron assisting.

TNT vs. Barrie

Oct. 8 - The TNT Major Midgets travelled to Barrie to take on the Jr. Colts for the second time this season. Although the Colts tried their best to make it an "Ultimate Fighting" bout, they turned their heads and a hockey game broke out.

The Tornados pulled together and Mitch Fenech opened the scoring with a beautiful wrap-around.

Barrie answered twice to take the lead but then Ted Hoy tucked it by the goalie's skate and Joey Nieleszeruk charged through for an interception and sealed it with a backhand flip to give the TNT team its first victory of the year.

TNT vs. Georgina

Oct. 9 - The Midgets journeyed to Sutton to visit the Georgina Blaze also for the second time this season.

Matt Carlucci was hot this evening and opened the scoring with a backhander 30 seconds into the game. He never quit all evening, killing penalties, moving the puck, intercepting and generally irritating most of the Blaze forwards.

TNT captain Dan Stamcos nailed the second goal home off a rebound from Fenech's attempt and although Georgina also scored twice to tie it, the Tornados left the rink with a bounce to their step and smiles on their faces.

TNT vs. Georgina

Oct. 12 - Too many stuffed Tornados (or so it seemed) resulted in a lackluster performance in this one. The first period looked pretty good with Sean Morley carrying the puck in from the blue line, skating around the net and making a tape to tape pass right on to the waiting Nieleszeruk who lifted it glove side for the goal, but the party ended there for TNT.

Georgina persevered through penalty after penalty managing to score three goals to secure the win and the third period saw the Tornados spinning through the penalty box at lightning speed but unable to find the net.
