The Banting Memorial High School Junior Marauders football team trounced the Bradford Bucaneers 28-6 last week.

The Banting Marauders Junior football team won its second game of the season last Tuesday with a strong defence that kept the Bradford Buccaneers frustrated and stuck mid field for most of the game.

On the offence, the Banting squad is turning into a fast machine with some serious forward speed and clean hard hitting work by the linemen to open the holes for the ball carriers.

Tuesday's game was number three for the juniors after winning the previous week and losing their season opener against Barrie's Bear Creek Secondary school.

The Marauders took an early lead when quarterback Kory Brown threw a long pass to Mike Gautreau to take the squad to the 12-yard line.

Running-back Greg Beitz scored the first of his two touchdowns when he crossed the goal on the third down early in the quarter.

Kicker Bert Dos Santos placed one between the uprights for the extra point. Dos Santos made four successful converts during the game.

The Marauders went ahead by 14 late in the first quarter after holding the Buccaneers at mid field and forcing the punt.

Jayden Norcross scored on a wild run down the field shaking off Bradford defenders during a running play on the first down.

Infractions cost the Banting squad a TD in the second quarter when a play was called back on a red flag when the Marauders were on the one-yard line.  Another infraction on the next play put the Marauders back another 10 yards.

A final push landed them inches short of the goal and the turnaround left Bradford with the ball on the goal line and the quarterback taking the snap in the Buccaneers' end zone.

Beitz got his second TD of the game on a 60 yard sprint down the right side of the field.

Late in the third quarter the Marauders kept up the pressure on the offence when Will Hall ran hard for the first down.

Receiver Jordan Brewer caught a long pass and ran in for the TD just before the end of the quarter and the successful kick gave Banting a 28-point lead going into the fourth.

The Buccaneers made it on to the scoreboard late in the game with the warning flag up giving the three minute notice. The convert attempt was wide.

The final score was 28-6.

Banting Memorial high school will host a football double header tomorrow (Thurs., Oct. 16).

The Junior Marauders will take the field at 1 p.m. followed by the senior squad at 3:30 p.m.
