Fergus goalie Gary Walser blocks a shot from Alliston Hornets' Assistant Captain Jason Campeau during Friday night's game at the New Tecumseth Recreation Complex.

After the first round of meeting every team in the GeorgianV Bay - Mid Ontario Hockey League, the Junior C Alliston Hornets are undefeated in seven games.

On the road, the Hornets won 9-4 over the Schomberg Cougars Thursday at the Cougars' home barn. The return home for their Friday game against Fergus ended with Alliston taking an 8-3 win over the Devils.

The Fergus squad learned a lesson in how damaging penalties can be. Fergus had 22 minutes in minors compared to just 12 on the Hornets' side.

Three  of the Hornets goals were on powerplays.

The Hornets lost defenseman Jeff McCarty for the game and winger Pat McCarron got tossed for an additional two games after a scrap in the Hornets' end in the second period.

The Devils opened the scoring midway through the first, but Kurtis Brossard and Michael Campeau both got the markers late in the period to give Allisotn a goal lead when the buzzer sounded to end the frame.

Ryan Algar scored at 1:28 into the second and three more Alliston shots found the mark by late in the period.

That was enough for the Fergus coach to pull goalie Rob Rankin and put Gary Walser between the pipes.

Chad Camirand, Jason Campeau and Thomas Faris, got the points for the Alliston goals.

The Devils managed a late-period, short handed goal when Mitch Gelford scored with one of the Fergus players in the box.

Faris picked up his second point of the game in the third period when took a well aimed pass from Michael Campeau and fired a rocket past the Fergus goalie on the stick side.

Faris' third point of the game when he fed Eric Shannon who scored to give Alliston eight for the game.

The Devils picked up their third when Ethan Jobb beat netminder Troy Dowswell with just 1:50 left on the clock.

So far this year the Alliston squad has been turning up the heat in the second period. Last season they had a tendency to save the best for the third frame.

Alliston centre Kurtis Brossard said the squad is keeping on the pressure early in the game.

"We're trying to get quick starts. It seems that was our fault last year. We've built that back up, so now we'll have to look at our third period. I think its just that when you get such high scores you get too calm and lay off a little bit."

As for Fergus spending so much time in the box, Brossard said the Hornets just took advantage of the time.

"For us that's how we got back in the game - a couple of powerplay goals put us up. We just let them do what they want to do. They try to take us off our game and then we just put them away on the power play."

The Hornets have an average of almost eight goals per game so far this season after scoring 54 times in the first seven games.

Four Alliston players are currently in the top five of league scoring stats. Winger Jason Campeau is sitting on top of the scoring leader board with nine goals and six assists. Chad Cairand is second with 15 points and Kurtis Brossard is close behind with 13 to his credit. Centre Ryan Algar is currently in fifth spot with five goals and assists.

After the weekend, the Hornets are alone in first place in GMOHL standings with 14 points.

The Hornets go on the road Thurs., Oct. 16 to take on the Stayner Sisksins in an 8:30 p.m. start at Stayner arena.

They return to Alliston this Fri., Oct. 17 to face the Erin Shamrocks. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
