Victorious Patrick Brown on the podium with his mother

It’s back to Ottawa for Brown

BY Janis Ramsay   October 14, 2008 22:10

Conservative Patrick Brown is ready to get back to work.

Re-elected as the federal MP Tuesday night, he plans to continue working for health care issues in the riding.

“I hope to serve on the health care committee and I’ll continue fundraising for Royal Victoria Hospital,” Brown said.

Dealing with the Criminal Code – particularly sections dealing with young offenders – infrastructure and environmental issues such as Lake Simcoe are all subjects Brown hopes to work on this term.

He said the fact that Barrie’s riding was viewed as a “nail-biter” pre-election didn’t reflect what happened in the polls. Brown won the riding with more than 52 per cent of the vote.

Liberal Rick Jones had 23 per cent, NDP Myrna Clark had 12 per cent, and the Green Party's Erich Jacoby-Hawkins had 11 per cent.

Although the Conservatives won all of the local ridings – Simcoe North, Simcoe Grey, York Simcoe, Bruce Grey Owen Sound – Harper failed to win a majority government.

“We’ve seen a huge Conservative gain and it is a great sign that Canadians have said this government is going in the right direction.

“They want to see this minority government achieve things.”
