Silvercrest Christian School students participated in the Great Canadian Fire Drill Thurs., Oct. 9.

All 52 students performed well, making it out in 45 seconds.

The mass fire drill was a project of the Wasaga Beach Fire Department but the effort extended throughout the country.

About 1,700 students in four schools including Birchview Dunes, Worsley and St. Noel Chabanel, took part Thursday. Firefighters evaluated student performance and identified areas for improvement, giving staff tips on how to improve school escape plans.

Deputy Fire Chief Wes Higgins coordinated participation in the local fire drill. He said all of the schools did very well.
